Hey Shawn, Looking at your swing it looks like you hit the ball effortlessly and the ball just takes off. Just out of curiousity how far can you drive the ball? what is your longest drive and what is your average drive?

Shawn, I have developed a problem with my drive. I was hitting great for months and then all the sudden my drives have been taking off with perfect trajectory and after about 80-100 yards, they just dive out of the air. They all go straight but 90% of the time they are diving. Any clue as to what causes this?

@clemshaw
Thanks! Any tips on not shanking it? I'm new, but most of my irons go straight, while my driver ALWAYS manages to shank right. It's really annoying.
Also, I'm right handed.

@Dagenie2D,

Today's drivers have bigger heads and the centre of gravity is much lower and further back in the head. What this means in real life is they are designed to hit the ball higher and with less spin. The difference in technique comes with hitting the ball more on the upswing and hitting it slightly high of centre on the face. You'll need to tee the ball high enough so that at least half the ball is peeking above the crown of the driver.

I'm pretty new to the game, so could you please help me out with knowing the difference between the modern and old drivers? I'm having trouble with knowing where and how high to tee it off and making good contact in general. Will it say the difference on the driver?

Not at all! The Drivers today are designed for higher launch with lower spin; as long as you are not hitting down on the ball with it you will get everything out of it;
See "golf pro lesson fairway woods and skipping technique" video and make sure you swing along or across the ground and not down;

hey shawn, I have the taylor made burner 07 driver and based on your suggestion I should tee the ball closer to the ground. But wouldn't teeing it that low, compromise on the driver distance?

Thanks for the question; My Typical carry with the driver is 285 to 295 in still conditions; which will yield 310 to 320 on the average fairway; 3 wood carry is 255 to 265;
